Dentures That Stay Put
If your dentures slip when you eat or talk, or you’re facing the loss of most or all of your teeth, implant dentures may help you smile and eat with more confidence. At Montesano Dental, Dr. Kevin Farr offers implant-supported denture options for patients throughout the Grays Harbor area.
Implant dentures attach to dental implants placed in the jaw. Instead of relying on suction or adhesive, they are anchored in place, giving you a more secure fit and a more natural feel than traditional dentures. Missing only one or a few teeth? See single and multiple tooth implants.
Snap-In Overdentures (Removable)
A snap-in overdenture is a full denture that clips onto implants, typically four on the lower jaw and four to six on the upper. Attachments on the implants snap into matching housings inside the denture, so it stays put while you eat, talk, and laugh. Like a traditional denture, it has acrylic flanges that rest on your gum tissue for added support. You take it out each night to clean it and your gums, then snap it back in the morning.
Removable at home for easy daily cleaning
Flanges rest on the gums, sharing the biting load between the implants and gum tissue
Usually a less involved treatment than a fixed denture
In some cases your current denture can be adapted to snap onto implants
Attachments are small parts that are replaced from time to time as they wear
A good fit if you want a big step up in stability from a regular denture and like the convenience of taking it out to clean.
Fixed Full-Arch Implant Dentures (Non-Removable)
A fixed implant denture is a screw-retained full arch of replacement teeth attached to several implants that stays in your mouth all the time. You never take it out at home; only your dentist removes it during maintenance visits. Because it is supported entirely by the implants, it has no flanges resting on your gums, so there is far less contact with the gum tissue. It feels and functions the closest to having your own teeth again.
Stays in place day and night, with no clips or adhesive
No flanges on the gums and no plastic covering the roof of your mouth
Stronger, more natural bite for chewing a wider range of foods
Cleaned in place with a toothbrush, floss, and a water pick
Usually requires more planning than a snap-in denture
A good fit if you want teeth that never come out and feel as much like natural teeth as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between snap-in and full-arch implant dentures? Snap-in dentures are removable and clip onto implants. Full-arch implant dentures are fixed in place and are only removed by the dental team.
Can I use my current denture? Sometimes. In some cases an existing denture can be modified to snap onto implants. We’ll evaluate it at your consultation.
Will I be without teeth during treatment? In many cases a temporary denture is provided so you’re not without teeth while you heal. We’ll discuss what applies to your situation.
How do I clean implant dentures? Snap-in dentures are removed and cleaned daily, along with the implant attachments. Fixed full-arch dentures are cleaned in place with a toothbrush, floss, and a water pick.
How long do implant dentures last? With good home care and regular visits, implants can last many years. The denture teeth may need maintenance or replacement over time due to normal wear.
